Back-to-school season is right around the corner! And I can’t help but think that while some of us are a bit more experienced in this (think parents of more than one), others are dealing with this for the first time, especially if they are first-time parents or have younger children who are starting daycare, pre-k, or kinder for the first time.

I fall in the crowd of parents dealing with this for the first time. And yes, I am probably more nervous than my son is, but I can also see the jitters start to creep in when my husband and I talk to him about school, and my priority is to make sure he feels confident for the big day and throughout the year. My focus is currently on practicing positive affirmations to help build confidence.

Practicing positive affirmations with your children can help them develop the support and confidence they need to get through difficult situations where you can’t be there to help. Our children are in a new environment, surrounded by new people, and experiencing a significant change in their lives all at once. Our brains are powerful and positive affirmations are a quick way to rewire our mood and attitude and get us to start believing in ourselves.

In preparation for the new school year, I’ve compiled a list of 30 positive affirmations to help children build confidence for the school year.

If you have children in the 2-5 year range, I suggest starting with 2-3 affirmations until they memorize them; then, you can add more. My go-to for my son starting Kinder this September are:

I am strong

I am loved

I am smart

I can do this

Every day is a new day
